All franchises go to paradise – reporting ([REC] 2007 – 2014)

Intellectual property consisting of characters, a fictional universe and other things in any original media work, such as books, films, television programs or computer games. For example, a series of films, their sequels, prequels, plot branches.

This time, even a lot came out directly, although only six films, I am not to blame (apparently I get as Zulin – rarely, but a lot. And I don’t think that all lovers of “reporting” know that four parts came out, and even a remake, and even a sequel of a remake, so that someone’s writings may seem curious to someone.

There are big franchises like all sorts of soulless Marvel and DC, but there are small and proud franchises that let and do not have a terrible horde of fans, but they enjoy respect and honor among the mighty pile of spectators, and every sequel is waiting and hoping for a worthy successor of the franchise case. Or they do not enjoy respect, throwing coals into the furnace of burning scores from the next wretched sequel. Or something between. Today we will talk about such a franchise that, despite the rather local fame, manages to generate hot disputes among fans, for every film-continuation of this franchise managed to gain both a crowd of adorers and a crowd. What a franchise, you ask you like you did not see the name, but you have to bring it to the main narrative, well, what will I do, And whether she was able to get into paradise, and not to perish in the abysses of hatred and censure of fans? And I will answer. Meet a new column, which will stretch at least three issues.

How did it all begin: It all started with Spain. You probably do not know, but Spain has long and productively supplies high -quality cinema to the expanses of cinema, especially distinguished in terms of supply of various kinds of horror and thrillers. Of course, these paintings did not receive great fame, but they definitely took their crumbs from the pie, and the Spanish cinema was on a pencil for all lovers to be terrible, but to transpower. And so, 2007. If anyone does not remember – it was during this period that very popularity slowly but surely gained the genre “mockoument” or “Escaping with a frantically shaking camera, so that it was terrible, Buuuuuu”. Soon the first film “Paranormal Phenomenon” was supposed to be released, there was “Montstro” and “. Zhauma Balaguero and Paco Plaza, two Spanish directors, known for a couple of medium-sized horror and had a reputation as quite good genre figures, came up with a rather interesting concept-a zombie-chorror, whose action will unfold in a limited space of an apartment building, and the narrative will not be in a standard way, but through the objectsget into this house. Having gathered one and a half million Spanish money on the susks, the directors began work. Did they know that their film would soon blow up the community of lovers to postpone bricks and conquer even the most burned critics and spectators? It is not known for certain, but in 2007 a “report” came out – and he surprises everyone.

Reporting ([REC] – 2007)

What is the film about: All journalists crave sensations! But the novice teleporter Angela Vidal from the chronicle. With enviable perseverance, she is looking for unique material, and therefore leaves with the team of rescuers to the place of a terrible incident in a large residential building.

Arriving there, Angela, who is excitingly busy with work, does not immediately understand exactly where exactly she leads her report. Awareness of terrible reality comes too late. The inhabitants of the house, affected by a terrible virus, turn into zombies one after another. So that the infection does not break out to the streets of the city, the authorities blocked the house – there is no exit! But the television camera will work until the end ..

Badabum: Say that the “report” blew up these of our cinematographic swamps – nothing to say. At the time of the release, the film literally bathed in enthusiastic reviews, not only spectators, but also severe critics. All as one noticed excellent operator work, outstanding acting and rightly the physically tangible atmosphere of horror and the despair of people locked in a damned house. Whether such violent enthusiasm is applicable ten years later? Surprisingly, yes. Even more surprising, but now I want to praise the film even stronger. AND Even more surprising, But having seen enough of these ten years, the mockier of all shapes and sizes, I want to officially declare – the “report” is still one of the best, if not the best, representative of the genre.

Even ten years later, the film at times catch up with almost a real animal fear

Why so? And everything is simple. “Reporting” very competently builds Saspens, playing on the most banal fear – fear of being abominable monsters in a closed space, without hope for salvation, when one wrong step will lead to death. The film perfectly conveyed a feeling from computer games, by the type of “amnesia” or “outlast”, when you follow you a monster on your heels, and you literally feel that it catch up with your defenseless carcass, from which the sedelic is involuntarily compressed to the size of the needle ears. Plus a raid of realism here, which only emphasizes the atmosphere and other virtues. Thanks for this, it’s worth saying, in fact, to everyone. The operator does not overdo it with a frantic shaking, as it will become fashionable later, but shows us exactly as much as we need so that the perception of the film does not spoil. Actors are all well done at all. They did not need a Shakespearean game, but the guys try, cause sympathy, panicked very naturally, conveying this very sense of panic to the viewer, and the nyashechka Manuel Velasco not only plays perfectly, but also pleases the eye, because still a pretty girl. But all this would not work and so well if it were not for the directors. Having stuffed their hands on mediocre horrors, the guys feel very well when the viewer needs a shake, building the environment so that we are always in the tension and anticipation of the speedy Zvizda. Plus, they do not play with the viewer, as Western filmmakers like to do. The camera does not go bashfully to the side, with a splash of another tin, the heroes are quite actively dying, children are used (!!) what is somewhat unusual, in general, the directors do everything so that the viewer understands – they do not play with him here, everyone is in an adult, do not count on Happy End, not, not, not, not, not. And most importantly, the film does everything so that you understand and feel as much as possible – You there. You and the heroes run from the brutal zombares, you are hiding with the heroes, you survive with the heroes, You Together with them.

In total, we have a reference zombie-horror, which looks great and is reviewed now, and even against the backdrop of numerous brothers in the genre and looks almost a masterpiece at all. Is there anything to complain about? No doubt. The script for the film is simple as a pickup of unripe schoolgirls in the next Japanese visual short story, but still manages to bring the share of unreasonable decisions and stupid acts, not as critical as that of Western representatives, but the eye still cuts during the next review. Well, on the little things, here, yes there. But why find fault, if you do not want to do this at all?

Is it worth it: What a stupid questions?

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii banging the film brutally. Of course, thirty million dollars of fees – not like a lot of money, but for the film shot for a couple of sandwiches, this is a huge success. Friends-regimens immediately became a national hope for the advance of the Spanish horror to the masses, and the plans were echoed by the sequel, which would complement the story and explain all the unbearable. Quarantine (Quarantine – 2008)

It is not that catastrophically bad (we will talk about catastrophically bad a little later), he is simply all of himself by the personification of the word “mediocre”, especially when compared with the original. Especially ardent fans of the original can call him a wretched brother-Autist of the original from a vicious Hollywood car, but I still love such films, so I will not be so strict. But God you are mine, how many lost opportunities. As mentioned above, the film almost firmly copies the original, but does this according to all the laws of Hollywood remakes – it is better in technical terms, but without a light. Well, the heroes run around the house, well, talk conversations, well, they eat everyone around Zombari, but somehow it is very so -so. The film has problems in the little things. Changing the multi -apartment cramped lupus to a completely sueeric American house for the middle class, the film lost in the atmosphere of claustrophobia, because there are places to hell, I don’t want to, even the elevators are present. Changing the not very famous, but diligent actors to Jennifer Carpenter and various natives of the series, the film lost in an element of experience, because the heroes do not cause sympathy, because they can only scream and swear, and the screech of the Carpenter can start annoying at a certain period of time, she clearly does not get charisma of the Spanish predecessor. The operator picked up an epilepsy, therefore, sometimes the camera shakes as if we sat down to ride a swing. The script was supplemented by a couple of scenes, a couple of trifles, but all these little things do not move the plot at all, set the intellectual level of local food for the zombie as irreparably low, and why are needed – completely nipan, apparently to pull the time to say – there is no trace of the bestial energy, here we have everything sechy and leisurely. And so here in everything – one to one, but that How and where All this has been shot, spoils the whole impression completely, although it would seem that purely trifles have changed. The only thing where the picture undoubtedly wins is in the makeup of the local ceremonials, but the picture looks more advanced. But from such trifles, all the shortcomings of this picture are built. And the remake is perceived not as a claustrophobic distilled zombie-chorror, but as another representative of the genre. It is definitely not the worst, but far from the most outstanding, typical filmman about zombies for the evening, also a typical remake – more technical, but completely cold and soulless, where the Spaniards had a heart and soul, Hollywood has a cold calculation.

Is it worth it: In principle, if there is absolutely nothing to take yourself, that is, there is absolutely nothing, then you can.

That’s how it is. The film with a rattle paid off, but that critics, that the audience in their opinion turned out to be one – not as terrible as it could be, but the original is better. Much. Much, much. And while the Americans were building their remake, the Spaniards prepared the sequel of the original tape, so that this time even to break the most notorious hateers of the first part. They rolled it out in 2009 and it turned out … curious.

Report from the underworld ([REC] ² – 2009)

What happened in the sequel: A detachment of special forces, together with a medical worker, penetrate the house, which has become an epicenter of the spreading infection, turning people into crazy denser flesh … At the same time, stupid teenagers penetrate the house in order to become the stars of YouTube. But everything turned out to be not so simple, because spoiler, and then also spoiler, And suddenly we will find out that spoiler, Anyway, all the persimmon is due to spoiler.

You can argue about the film as much as you like, but showing what is happening through the camera on the shoulder of the special forces – the reception is simply awesome.

Well, how is the sequel there, the sequel is like: Let’s agree, in order to get maximum pleasure from the picture, we need to accept the fact that “reporting from the underworld” is a completely different film. That is, right completely. That is, it is now not even a claustrophobic zombie-chorror. That is, now instead of a chamber horror about the gathering of helpless people, they stuck a frantic action about special forces who, to the best of their modest abilities, arrange Kuzkin’s mother with the raging denser of the flesh, that’s so another film. Zhauma Balaguero and Paco Plaza went a very interesting way. They did not finish the cow, releasing the sequel on the principle of “the same, but more”, they went by shifting the genre path and expanding the universe of their film. In general, the “Reporting” sequel claims to be one of the most curious interpretations of the appearance of the zombie, because the explanation of the whole batch will very much surprise you, because the plot ups and downs here will be given minimal attention, because they have a high desire to spill everything, it is painfully interesting they spent everything, so I just say that the work on the mistakes has been made, the plot even claims to be enthusiastic about interestingplot turns, although the plot of the plot is not very glued with the plot of the first part. But it’s very impressive.

And, frankly, I liked the sequel, let it with reservations. “Report 2” came out very bright and creative in his desire to surprise the viewer with a film, to some extent he even surpasses the original, but it is worth recognizing that in comparison with this very original he lost a lot. The most important loss can be called the sad fact that the film now does not scare at all. It still perfectly overtakes the voltage, the operator is still on top, the actors give the heat, still uses the decorations of the apartment -wide labyrinth to the fullest, but exchanged hide and seek from a zombie, for a frantic finger and generally a real action. Unconditionally spectacular and furious, with their 10 out of 10 points, but such twists can scare away those who expected from the sequel all the same to the continuation of the line with the horror, and not the unexpected roll towards the militant. And with the script that I carefully praised not everything is smooth. The line with a special forces detachment is good to madness, without a doubt, but the adventures of stupid teenagers look frankly superfluous. No, the plan is understandable – to show what is happening from two points of view, but only the teenagers will dull wildly, tolerate and generally irritate to insanity, so you wait for their deaths almost stronger than unexpected turns with special forces. In general, the sequel turned all out of itself curious, and from the point of view, as it were, “sequel” and completely exemplary, because it surprises. Yes, not terrible at all, but with excellent acting work, a curious plot and a suitable action. Honor and respect to the creators.

Is it worth it: If you are ready to accept the fact that the “report” is now more likely an action, then there is no doubt. If not, it’s better to pass by, otherwise you are upset.

The sequel, in fact, was to accept very, very warmly, and even the Babosikov was picking himself up, but so he gathered that the creators announced two continuations at once. And while they sculpt these continuations, Hollywood does not doze. After all, how is this – the Spaniards make their sequels and row the green ones, and we are sitting here, turnips by Czech. And if the Spaniards made their sequel correctly to surprise fans, then Hollywood followed the path of the least resistance – sculpted, sculpt, and we will throw it on the video, maybe someone would look. Quarantine 2: terminal (Quarantine 2: Terminal – 2010)

Plot: Oh, guys, what a plot. On an airplane, people turn into a zombie, the plane makes an emergency landing in some kind of rowers, and a bunch of dull degenerates run from them.

Everyone, fu, fu, fu, forgot how a nightmare, back to their favorite Spaniards. The promised “reporting” sequels were shot in a rather interesting way. For the third part, Paco Plaza was now responsible, and Zhauma Balaguero, having removed before that the excellent “strong dream” rushed to shoot the fourth, which was supposed to marked the end of the “Reporting” franchise. The directors were divided, because it was doubly more interesting to see whether they could stretch out the sewers of the film alone, which made them famous. And, without putting it off in a long box, I will say – it turned out really interesting. In 2011, Paco Plaza represents a tricel of the famous franchise, which again changes the rules of the game almost completely.

Report 3: Genesis ([REC] ³: génesis – 2011)

Plot ups and downs:Such a significant event as the wedding turns into a real hell. The guests and the groom and the bride are forced not to rejoice and celebrate, but to save their lives, because the zombie virus broke out to freedom.

Whether I am a fool, or friends-players can drag the beauties into their film. And yes, on the left of the left knightly armor.

So what is there: And again we have a bunch of curiosity. If the “report” sequel was neatly transformed into the action along the narrative, trying not to excite the feelings of fans too much, then the “genesis” is pretended to the right horror, in the best traditions of the first part, the first 20-25 minutes, and then with all the vanes, he throws up these stresses, the characters, and proudly declares “I-I-the trash! Love me!”. And at times, the trash is also frankly comedy. Do not fall from the chairs, but the third “report” changed the paradigm as much as possible. Here we have a bride with chainsaws, people in the costumes of the Bob sponge (well, almost-still copyright), the massacre under the fanned wedding rhythms and a pinch of a very cute love line. And here I had to renew “What is it?! Where is the sappress?! ЧТО ЗА ТРЕШНЮ ВЫ МНЕ ВТЮХИВАЕТЕ, ГДЕ НОРМАЛЬНЫЙ ТРИКВЕЛ?!”, But … damn it, the film is just awesome. And saying “awesome”, I do not show that higher education flew by, and in my soul I will remain the same bydlan, I try to say that the film gives exactly what is commonly called “awesome”. Well, he doesn’t try to seem serious at all, he simply dumps a stream of spectacular action, jokes, shocking in his madness of scenes (this does not give me all the bride with a chainsaw), the good old drive, inherent only to high -quality representatives of Trees and a very touching love line. Well, it will not be superfluous to mention that the picture here is a candy, and the actors openly come off and are fooling around, especially the Flight of the Doler, playing the role of the bride. Oh, the wrath of a woman who ruined the wedding ..

Just leave it here

Without a doubt, the original fans will tear and throw, I myself am ready to admit that I expected anything, but not a semi-comedy zombie tresh. But the bottom line is that this very semi-comedy zombie tresh turned out to be very cheerful and cheerful. Yes, this is no longer a zombie there, but the film is high-quality, albeit completely optional (its events take place parallel to the events of the first film, but you will not see some interesting details). Beautiful, cheerful and energetic in his desire to give the viewer an hour and a half of an hour of a cheerful booth with zombies and chainsaws.

Is it worth it: If you are not against the fact that the once-eminent horror has turned into jokes-jokes and love the frivolous trash-of course. What to say – the people did not appreciate the efforts of Paco Plaza. Everyone noted the beautiful picture and the general energy of the action, but those tambourines that Plaza started the franchise were not forgiven to this day, and with the past parts, “Genesis” is related by one name. People were waiting for a serious zombie-citror and to accept such a “report” were not unequal. That is why everyone suddenly decided that it was thanks to Zhaum Balaguero that the first parts of the “report” came out so excellent and now he will show his “apocalypse” where the crackers will show where the crayfish are hibernated, because Zhauma promised to tell how the adventures of the brave of the journalist Angela Vidal would end and generally finish the series on a high note.

Report 4: Apocalypse ([REC] 4: Apocalipsis – 2014)

It is plot: Angela comes to his senses on a ship in the middle of the ocean. After the outbreak of an epidemic of an unknown virus, turning people into zombies, scientists decided to isolate infected, but not sick people to explore the nature of the infection. A specially equipped former oil tanker has all the necessary equipment for laboratory experiments. But neither scientists nor the team even know what awaits them.

Have you managed to finish on a high note: Relatively. The most offensive is that all unexpected turns from the second part are forgotten, we again have a standard zombie virus, again standard zombies-bugs. And sorry. Otherwise, the Apocalypse almost completely lost the distinctive features of the original. No more mocker, no claustrophobia, nothing that made the original as a cult. The film turned out, let’s say, a good standard. Again, with the first two parts, only the name connects the picture, and still charismatic Angela Vidal, for the rest, this is an absolutely independent work, which can be watched in isolation from the rest of the franchise. Is it bad? Not really. This is a very peppy zombie-explosion, which is again unfolding in the most banal open spaces-oil tanker. Scolding the picture, for the fact that it moved as much as possible from the canons of the original it makes no sense, because she did it already in the “underworld”, so we simply state the fact – for its genre the film is definitely not bad. It is interesting to follow the struggle of journalists and stupid sailors with a zombie, there is a rather appropriate humor, everything is shot again at a very high level, you can’t say that everything was shot for pennies, and even in Spain, and Manuel Velasco conquers me again inexhaustible charisma, and my wife is new in general. To scold the film behind the script, for it is again a straight-by-a-way, and even smacks of schizophrenia a little (as the sailors became infected with a zombie virus-this is directly a circus with horses), but again, it is tolerable, quite exciting and does not sin with stupid things. It’s funny, but by the fourth part “reporting” turned from one of the most original zombies, into a picture that is an assessment except “above average” and not to put.

The language will not turn a worthy ending of the Apocalypse series, but, as the example of a tricel shows, everything can be much worse, there is at least there is no slope in a completely stubborn trash. This is a rather competent representative of the genre that will disappear from your head faster than the “genesis”, but a pleasant evening in his company will give, let and leave with the feeling that it was not such a finale that earned a “report”.

Is it worth it: It is possible, probably it is necessary, all the same, Angela Vidal, and indeed, the film is very nothing.

Results: Reporting franchise is an example of how a promising project can fever. The sequels rushed from extreme to extremes, changed the genre, plot, heroes, directors even fled, but only the film remained in the memory of people with which it all started. It is definitely worth getting acquainted with all the films of the series, because each of them is to some extent an experiment, not always successful, but always curious. Whether the franchise got into paradise? Well, rather, stuck somewhere in purgatory, a couple of times came dangerously close to gnawing at hell.
